Bas Berkhout's Short Film '40 Years in Prison' Captures José's First Moments of Freedom


Nearly 40 years ago, José was sentenced to "15 years to life" for murder at the age of 17. After having been denied parole 9 times, spending several years in solitary confinement, he is finally to be released at age 56 from Attica Correctional Facility, New York. In filmmaker Bas Berkhout's short film "40 Years in Prison", we'll see José reunite with his wife, who was his girlfriend at the time of the imprisonment, and his first moments of freedom.
