Baz Luhrmann´s "Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)"

This morning I was reminded about Baz Luhrmann´s "Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)" and it´s trustworthy message.

  • Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth
  • Do one thing everyday that scares you
  • Don’t be reckless with other people’s hearts, don’t put up with people who are reckless with yours
  • Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults
  • Enjoy your body, use it every way you can…don’t be afraid of it, or what other people think of it, it’s the greatest instrument you’ll ever own
  • Get to know your parents, you never know when they’ll be gone for good
  • Be nice to your siblings; they are the best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future
  • Understand that friends come and go,but for the precious few you should hold on
  • Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it’s worth

Old age without regret

Make each day useful and cheerful and prove that you know the worth of time by employing it well. Then youth will be happy, old age without regret and life a beautiful success.

Marc Allen on The Greatest Secret of All

I like Marc Allen´s humble manner and the way he tells his story.
He´s an internationally renowned author and president and publisher of New World Library.

Online learning

The internet provides opportunity for education since many universities offer online and distance courses. I took an online course in philosophy a while ago at Oxford University - The Department for Continuing Education and was very pleased. YouTube EDU has videos and channels from their college and university partners.

Start enjoy reading

Lately I´ve been trying to "find" some time for reading. Reading enriches me in so many ways but somehow I choose to do other things with less value. Now I´m cutting the time used on YouTube, Twitter etc. and reading 10-20 minutes instead.

You can do so much in 10 minutes time. Ten minutes, once gone, are gone for good. Divide your life into 10-minute units and sacrifice as few of them as possible in meaningless activity.

In a minute You could...

In the Success Magazine issue from April/May 2008 I found this great little article about things you can do in a minute.

In a minute You could...
  • Be grateful
    Write a thank-you card
  • Relax
Close your eyes, breathe deeply and slowly three times
  • Connect
Pick up the phone to call someone you haven´t seen in a while
  • Gain perspective
Look out the window toward the horizon
  • Think about you
List three things you like the most

Zen Habits

Zen Habits is a great blog run by Leo Babauta. The blog has some great content and with it´s "less is more" approach when it comes to the design I don´t end up feeling stressed out with all of it´s content.

Daily Life Tourist

Every day gives us tremendous opportunities for growth, learning and interesting and exciting experiences. Can you remember one of thoose nice vacations you´ve had in the past? Why not becoming a tourist in your own daily life! For example visit unfamiliar places in your town, go out for dinner and coffee once in a while, explore some of the best books ever written, discover new knowledge and apply it in your own life.

Here are two great articles that will expand on the subject;

Beautiful Libraries

Via disassociated.com I found this lovely link showcasing libraries from around the world. By seeing the pictures I feel an urge to spend some time in at least one of them to be surrounded by history, knowledge and in the company of great thinkers from the past.

The Love of Journals

I have been journaling for a couple of years now, but somewhat reluctantly, I admit that not any journal will do. I love Moleskine journals and the whole ritual around writing in them. Capturing daily life moments, relationships, goals, ideas all of this has to be managed in a "proper" way. I use a Parker pen to write with and I truly recommend them. After "borrowing" my partners 20-year old Parker for some time, she bought me one!

Steve Jobs Commencement Speech ´05

Hearing Steve Jobs commencement speech to the graduates of Stanford University in 2005 made me print out a transcript of it and put it in my journal. This video has been around for a few years and widely seen and is still worth showing.

William Buhlman´s Newsletters

Going through my library this evening I noticed William Buhlman´s book "The Secret of the Soul" and was reminded about some truly powerful newsletters he has written.

I found these newsletters gems autumn 2003 about creating your reality. I really hope that you don´t let them pass you by, read them instantly:

The Dash

A couple of years ago I saw this 3 minute movie, "The Dash", and found it´s message at this particular moment very emotional. See more inspirational movies from Simple Truths.

Wayne Dyer - Inner Wisdom

Today I would like to share a sample from Wayne Dyers "Inner Wisdom". This complete library brings you the very best of his earlier work. I find Wayne to be one of todays rare and genuine teachers in the arena of personal and spiritual growth.

Viktor Frankl - Man's Search for Meaning

Via 112mirabela I found this short clip of Viktor Frankl giving a speech in 1972, Toronto. I have read Viktor Frankl´s acclaimed book "Man's Search for Meaning", a book that is both terrifying at times and at the same time enriching and uplifting. This book reflects man´s dark nature but also what makes a human being truly happy.

John Goddard

John Goddard is an inspiration, hopefully for all of us! When John was 15-years old he sat down at his kitchen table in Los Angeles and wrote three words at the top of a yellow pad, "My Life List".
Since that day he has accomplished many great and fascinating goals.

Louise L. Hay - Loving Yourself

This is a great clip showing Louise Hay talking about the importance of loving yourself. When I saw the movie "You Can Heal Your Life" Louise shared an interesting story about her earlier work with clients. When people started to love themselves many problems just faded away and it wasn´t neccessary to treat them in an individual way.
